PROJECT GOAL
InHouse Records is the world's first fully functional record label to be launched in prison, created with and by prisoners. Also, for ex-prisoners, it provides programs and mentoring to support them to find their pathway by joining a music label. By reflecting participants' performance through seven competencies that are considered important to work after being released, it proves that they can be socially integrated and try to help out with life after being released from prison. Currently, the service is operated based on five prisons, but it will gradually expand its scope. So, A stable and scalable system is needed to deal with more participants.
To do so, the missions are
1. It needs to provide a variety of pathways to make people adapt to society well.
2. It needs to have systematic mentoring systems to increase the scale.
3. It needs to show participant's ability well to make them have more opportunities.

IF you finished your prison sentence and wanted to start over,
WHAT IF there is no one waiting for you in society?
WHAT IF you were not given a chance to become a new person?
Then, How would you feel?
BACKGROUND
Nearly half of adults (48%) are reconvicted within one year of release.
Ineffective resettlement service
Difficulties in physical
and mental factors
Low attention to
hiring ex-offenders
Lack of educational
qualifications
15% of men and 13% of women have no settled accommodation status when leaving prison
49% of prisoners suffer from anxiety and/or depression. Many people in prison are released with debts
Formerly incarcerated people are unemployed at a rate of over 27%
47% of prisoners are estimated to have no school qualifications, including GCSEs
“A lot of strict rules InHouse provided by a charity like Nacro make people feel that is another prison”
“After being released, it is quite tough for people to adapt to society.”
“Due to bias and tension, the employment rate is low.”
“Prisoners have a hard time finding jobs because of a rather low level of education and few vacancy.”
CURRENT CHALLENGES

For Graduates

Emotional instability as having difficulties to adjust to society

Bad influences by going back to poor environments and acquaintances

Difficulty of satisfying basic needs

For InHouse

Low attention and funds
after release from prison

The weak connection to graduates after being released from prison

A lack of effective caring and mentoring
system to be scalable and sustainable
HOW AND WHEN THE CHALLENGE HAPPEN

Inside the prison InHouse system is well organized and working but the outside system is unstable because of weak connection, low attention, and ungovernable environments.
It is necessary to establish a stable system to prepare for the increasing number of prisoners released.

PROTOTYPING WITH INHOUSE RECORDS

Easy transformation to formal CV
Consider making tangible things such as a formal form of CV or reports to show them to employers through ongoing progress.
Works that are done in prison can be shown after they released
Graduates are influenced a lot by their peers and need support from each other, so I hope it can show them who is in the class.
Clear and separated role of mentors
To provide better mentoring we can divide mentors into three categories long-term relationship as life advisor(Big bro) and professional mentors for music, job applicant, or mental health.

The mentoring scheme will be designed by inhouse staff, big bro and head of mentors as representatives.
The diverse types of mentors will broaden the network and industries that triggers a new pool of employers. And graduates and employers interact directly with the service.
