PROJECT GOAL

InHouse Records is the world's first fully functional record label to be launched in prison, created with and by prisoners. Also, for ex-prisoners, it provides programs and mentoring to support them to find their pathway by joining a music label. By reflecting participants' performance through seven competencies that are considered important to work after being released, it proves that they can be socially integrated and try to help out with life after being released from prison. Currently, the service is operated based on five prisons, but it will gradually expand its scope. So, A stable and scalable system is needed to deal with more participants.

To do so, the missions are

1. It needs to provide a variety of pathways to make people adapt to society well.

2. It needs to have systematic mentoring systems to increase the scale.

3. It needs to show participant's ability well to make them have more opportunities.

IF you finished your prison sentence and wanted to start over,

WHAT IF there is no one waiting for you in society?

WHAT IF you were not given a chance to become a new person?

Then, How would you feel?

BACKGROUND

Nearly half of adults (48%) are reconvicted within one year of release.

Ineffective resettlement service

Difficulties in physical

and mental factors

Low attention to

hiring ex-offenders

Lack of educational

qualifications

49% of prisoners suffer from anxiety and/or depression. Many people in prison are released with debts

Formerly incarcerated people are unemployed at a rate of over 27%

47% of prisoners are estimated to have no school qualifications, including GCSEs

“A lot of strict rules InHouse provided by a charity like Nacro make people feel that is another prison”

“After being released, it is quite tough for people to adapt to society.”

“Due to bias and tension, the employment rate is low.”

“Prisoners have a hard time finding jobs because of a rather low level of education and few vacancy.

HOW AND WHEN THE CHALLENGE HAPPEN

Journey map_대지 1.png
인하우스 다시-09.png

Inside the prison InHouse system is well organized and working but the outside system is unstable because of weak connection, low attention, and ungovernable environments.

It is necessary to establish a stable system to prepare for the increasing number of prisoners released.

PROBLEMS

01

Unstable and weak relationship

Gradually expanded reliable relationship is needed from gate experiences from prison.

04

Unclear role of

IDEATIONS

EFFECTIVE MENTOR SYSTEM

Diverse types and clear role of mentor

  • Long-term mentors - who give support psychologically and connect them with people further.

  • Big bro and sis - InHouse already have big bro  who is graduate and contributes  for a long time they can do

  • 1-2-1 care for new graduates

  • Short-term mentors - who provide technical information for short periods of time.

We need people who can keep in touch with and help mentally graduates, and people who can teach them skills at the same time.

Easy transformation to formal CV

Consider making tangible things such as a formal form of CV or reports to show them to employers through ongoing progress.

Works that are done in prison can be shown after they released

Graduates are influenced a lot by their peers and need support from each other, so I hope it can show them who is in the class.

Clear and separated role of mentors

To provide better mentoring we can divide mentors into three categories long-term relationship as life advisor(Big bro) and professional mentors for music, job applicant, or mental health.

NEW STAKEHOLDER MAP &

ESTABLISHMENT OF RELATIONSHIP

InHouse Records is basically supported by the music industry and the Ministry of Justice.

Big Bros who build trust with participants for smooth transitions from prison to society are the center of the relationship and become the bridge between graduates and mentors. The head of mentors will build trust with short-term mentors and give a smooth onboarding process.

The mentoring scheme will be designed by inhouse staff, big bro and head of mentors as representatives.

The diverse types of mentors will broaden the network and industries that triggers a new pool of employers. And graduates and employers interact directly with the service.

HOW IT WORKS

FINAL DESIGN

01

Introduction for mentors

Spread value by storytelling

- Through showing Inhouse Records' goals and stories, it gives the mentors a sense of trust and motivates them to participate.

Show guidelines on how future mentors can help

- By showing categories of what talents can be donated, it lowers barriers to entry so that mentors can participate in the service a little more easily.

03

Find your classes

Explore activities

- Depending on the category and level, graduates can choose the course they want. Also, they can see a list of other graduates who participate.

04
